About the Album
💡 Roots is the debut album by Up/Down Percussion, serving as an homage to the various aspects of music that caught their attention, shaped the way they viewed the world, and firmly planted a passion for music in each ensemble member.
Album Concept: When Up/Down Percussion began contacting composers, they didn't have an overarching theme in mind. Their primary goal was simply to play new music together. Once they had all the works in front of them, the full scope became clear—each piece represents the plethora of reasons they decided to pursue music.
Musical Vision: The album explores music's ability to convey ideas that words cannot express, create vivid imagery, and move listeners through its inexplicable power. The works also celebrate the grooves that inspired the ensemble members in their early musical journeys.
