Silver Rings

Program Notes
'Silver Rings' is the musical contribution for 'The Linking Rings' Collaboration. This collaboration between the Orlando Contemporary Orchestra Brass, Ryan and Molly Stiner, the Dynamic Magic Duo, and Will Rogers.
Project Description:
'The Linking Rings combines original music played by the OCCO Brass section, a local voiceover artist, and a local illusionist duo. The illusionists present four solid silver rings, linking and unlinking them through a series of very fluid movements, simultaneously at opposite sides of the stage. This interpretation of The Linking Rings involves a narrator telling a story—via a poem—as he witnesses this act for the first time. A brass quartet plays, echoing the narrator’s curiosity and discovery while also acting as accompaniment for the illusion. The illusion, music, and narration are all extensions of each other--or "linked", providing a unique opportunity to use illusionary/magic as an artistic storytelling device. The four brass instruments also symbolize for four brass rings. We hope that the audience leaves with the desire to fulfill a sense of curiosity and discovery, while aiming to simply enjoy the moment and take in their environment.
Performance Notes
- -This piece is designed to be performed with and without narration. If it is decided to not perform with narration, performers can alter repeats as they see fit.
- -The number of repeats are included to help the narration flow in an appropriate length. However, it is not required that musicians follow these repeats strictly. The goal is to make the narration flow with the musicians as fluidly as possible.
- -II. Chain of Four has optional mutes because of quick mute changes, and the possibility of outside performance.
