WindSprints | Sonatina for Flugelhorn and Piano

WindSprints | Sonatina for Flugelhorn and Piano
Commissioned by Steffi Tetzloff
"Windsprints" is a four-movement sonatina for flugelhorn and piano, depicting a leaf floating throughout the world, navigating above the clouds, and finally, through a storm. This composition is designed to engage the listener's imagination and allows them to create their own story and visuals as the composition progresses from one movement to the next. It is purposely constructed to emulate a cornet style of progression. In particular, the long, drawn-out opening is out of time with a noodling texture that eventually progresses to a jazz and impressionistic floating line in the breezy winds of the second movement. The movement “Floating Above the Clouds” has the soloist first start in a rhythmic ostinato and then eventually move into an ad libitum solo, letting the soloist freely express themselves . Finally, the ending rush emulates fast and precise music. This is a quick journey with many different types of adventures.
THIS COMPOSITION IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE, BUT PERFORMING THE PIECE IS RESTRICTED UNTIL THE FULL PREMIERE PERFORMANCE (MAY 24th, 2025).
The piece can be performed anytime after May 24th, 2025.
